       @fitheach It’s also a double-edged sword. You can know about all the horrible and stupid things happening everywhere, all the time, and all at once. It’s likely we were always as evil as we seem to be today, but we couldn’t remotely know as much about it. We have more work ahead of us to adapt our minds to this superpower.

       @zlatko No, not satire.I've had some ongoing personal stuff that meant I appreciated instant communications.Sure, the technology can also be used as an electronic dog-leash, but, that is a cultural thing, separate from the technology.

       @fitheach Do you mean a choice to adapt our minds to omniscience, or a choice not to be horrible monsters? I would say adapting is inevitable, if the alternative is to go crazy. The calculus on media consumption versus mental health is a mindfulness habit I have been forced to develop.I’m pretty sure some variable segment of people will continue to be violent, ignorant, wasteful jerks forever, regardless of my personal decision to pay attention to it.

       @orbifx I once saw one of those road signs warning drivers to be beware of elderly people. Someone had amended the sign, using a black pen, to make it look the people were staring into smartphones.@randywaterhouse
