I've been seeing a lot of, "the police we should be worried about are already here and undercover not wearing their uniform. So, it's ridiculous to block/defederate public cops hosting instances"This argument misses the point. Yes, of course I am aware state threat actors exist covertly. That is a separate thing. I don't want to participate in any area of fedi who welcomes cops. I expect spaces to tell them to hit the bricks and come back with a warrant.

The argument concedes that some people can pose a threat and should be removed, but states that there is a worse hidden threat so we shouldn't act. That is literally "what about-ism".The threat is in front of you and setting up shop.

Anyway, this argument has been bugging me more than the other silly arguments I've gotten, because people have been using it to say:"of course ACAB, but these ones are OK. You don't really stand up to cops. I do, because I know there are secret police everywhere (who I also do nothing about), and that is why officer friendly is my new best friend."fyi, the secret police is you.

If you don't care about cops being on some other instance ... fair enough. We are cool. Cops permeate our existence, and I'm not going to require every person I meet to have as strict of a line on this as me. However, you can't simultaneously claim you do take a stance against the police while defending them.
