@robert_p_king pretty nice, eh? and we can all see the version history so mean people can’t gaslight us

@64 yeah just found that. This is how I expected Twitter editing to work, but I guess they have bigger problems now 😅

@robert_p_king with the QT and the general dgaf attitude there, i’d think editing would be a nightmare

@64 I might be overly suspicious but I reckon admins need to watch out for griefers editing old posts that have never been favourited or boosted, to bury content in a server's database that's illegal in its host country (eg lolicon or Nazi images), then reporting it using a different identity as a way of harassing the server admins. Older posts may not surface easily in fedi apps, but every public post is on the web, all you need is the URL, and edits can change visibility too.@robert_p_king

@strypey @64 @robert_p_king it would be good to have a time limit on edits. Maybe 2 hours perhaps so typos etc could be fixed but not some whole rewrite.

@strypey @robert_p_king oh true. yeah it’s been a long time since i did any moderation, thankfully i don’t really think about griefers anymore. it is surprising that there is no time limit on editing.

@brena I think that would resolve it.Side note: I was in almost this exact debate 10 years or so ago. Loomio got comment edits, and we were assured that the existence of a history that could be checked was sufficient. They try to sell Loomio as decision-making platform for businesses and not-for-profits. I wouldn't do decision-making for a company on a platform where the deliberations leading up to a decision can be retconned at any time, even if there is an audit trail.@64 @robert_p_king

@brena @strypey @64 I would go even shorter - say 10-15 mins - enough time to notice a typo or broken URL.I think if you come back to edit a post hours later, you are better to delete it and create a new one.

@robert_p_king > I think if you come back to edit a post hours later, you are better to delete it and create a new one.The problem with this is that if anyone has favourited, boosted, or replied to the post, deleting it breaks all those links. That's why the edit feature was requested and created. I do like the fact that I can spot a typo when someone boosts my post hours later and fix it. But the potential misuse does give me pause.@brena @64

@strypey @brena @64 I guess we’ll cross that bridge if we come to it here.

@64 > it is surprising that there is no time limit on editingI haven't heard any mention of one. The feature was discussed and implemented while I was on 'being too monged to function' leave ;)@robert_p_king
