       At the 1978 Science Fiction Film Awards, William Shatner provided one of the most unique covers of a pop song, certainly in a sci-fi convention, but maybe at any convention, or anywhere. Over the years, Shatner has weirdly denied it happened, but it did, and Flemishdog found a U-MATIC videotape with an unaltered, high-quality version of Shatner's "Rocket Man".        @textfiles I have no idea why he would deny it (unless he genuinely doesn't remember).  I thoroughly enjoy this, mostly because the performance seems pretty enthusiastic.

       @textfiles Friggin incredible!Weird that Shatner would deny it? Maybe he didn't want to be remembered for smoking and drug references?Admittedly, I am of the opinion that privatized space program robber barons such as Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk would benefit from internalizing Gil Scott-Heron's "Whitey on the Moon" but perhaps this uncovered Shatner gem would at least get through to Bezos somehow after the egregiously wasteful publicity stunt his Blue Origin pulled with Shatner?Probably wishful thinking on my part.Regardless, thank you for sharing!

       @textfiles You should all listen to Shatners album called "HAS BEEN", which has been produced by BEN FOLDS. It is a masterpiece (of creating a record with spoken word bits from Shatner and gracefully placing them in music, so you do not even recognize, that Shatner is just talking). I love it!
