Why do people celebrate #football so vigorously? I mean, i understand that you may be happy that your team won... but it's them getting paid to win, not you. So why get so excited?

@coffee the best analogy I’ve come up with so far is that football isn’t just about football, it’s about community. When “your” team wins, it’s not just them that’s winning, it’s you as well, indirectly. That same emotional investment allows for the team’s ups and downs to be enjoyed vicariously. When your team wins, it’s not “they won”, it’s “we won”. Etc.Someone who knows more than me can probably say if it’s a parasocial dynamic, akin to K-Pop fandom.

@coffee the best analogy I’ve come up with so far is that football isn’t just about football, it’s about community and shared identity. When “your” team wins, it’s not just them that’s winning, it’s you as well, indirectly. The same for their ups and downs. To me it seems very much a parasocial dynamic akin to K-Pop fandom, but that’s for someone who knows this area better than me to say for sure.
