pokémon scarlet and violet are the best lauch of all nintendo games and console exclusives of all time, they managed to sell an incredible 10 million units in just 3 days, even though these games are horribly broken and unplayable

@cafkafk @gloopsies i actually think the vanilite line is way too overhated, they make sense in their environment, ice cream is very popular in unova so it makes thematic sense

@cafkafk @gloopsies without getting a bit out there with the designs, we wouldn't have gotten some of the more cool looking designs, like nobody questions why they made a pokemon that's just a shark with legs, because garchomp looks cool

@gloopsies @cafkafk it's gen 1, they were still figuring out what exactly a pokemon is, most of them were just animals or objects with very minor changes, apparently they also weren't really focused on fleshing out the designs back then and had to kind of interpret the sprite art in the official designs, so of course some of them will be a bit rough. i think it's fair to expect more creative designs now, they literally just removed a letter from "flamingo" and made toedscool a new species instead of a regional form
