hello I am here with a report from distant lands.#hive is uhhhh Tumblr. it's Tumblr. ok it's myspace too, since you can put a song on your page. since it's also pictures, I don't really see why I'd stop using instagram for it. and it's super rough and slow.#post has promise to be good but so far it's a bunch of tech people + journos posting news to each other and I don't really want that. it's incredibly janky *in a good way.* definitely feels like they threw it together in a week for us.

@303 Very leery of closed source, commercial, or ad-driven silos. Kinda what got us in this mess. Assume none of these federate out or in?

@tchambers siloed. business model for post is noble but unproven. trying to do micropayments for paywalls.

@303 Both Post and Hive are names with a lot of name collision in a web search. There's at least a couple of other tech projects already called Hive and I couldn't even find Post. It's like calling a recipe website Food ;)Like CoHost, a lot of these kinds of projects will foam in and out of existence as a knee-jerk reaction to what's happening on Titter. The sustainable ones will most likely publish their code and implement either ActivityPub or the Mastodon app API.@tchambers

@303 @tchambers Post should definitely federate if they want to survive.Hive looks just kinda stupid to me. Not clear how they plan to be different from any other big commercial social media platform. (Music, rly?)
