Back from a long walk outside and thinking about this again. This dude had to have spent at least an hour or two going through all these posts, screen-shotting them, cropping them, then uploading all of them just to make this OP. It's like home boy's first time on the internet or something, like it's BigNews that strangers online can tell you to pound sand or call you mean words. People tell me I'm wrong all the time or insult me. I don't even waste the time blocking or muting them because that's too much effort to even exert. lol

@kino @sj_zero the sad part (for me) is that people are so used to being products that they expect it to be worth it for someone else to do the work of content moderation. This is fine - but it’s either going to be volunteers, which has its own issues, or paid workers, which costs money. Either way it’s a pretty thankless job with well documented psychological risks for a lot of people.

Takes a whole new mindset....Or rather, a very old mindset because that's the way it used to be. Forums were pretty hands off because the people running them didn't do it for a living. Occasionally admins would get involved if someone was being dangerous to the whole system, but generally speaking people had to figure their shit out on their own.

@kino @sj_zero reminiscing … there was “figure it out on your own” in a direction that meant heavy moderation - like “please post ONLY hamster related content on the hamster forum”, “please do not send prayer requests to the entire list” level stuff. I also remember paid AOL chat room mods. Paid by who, idk.

@kino I've been here for about a year and still have no fucking clue how the hell these people manage to get so much abuse in their feed.Like my experience is 95% chill, 2% drama and 3% hellthreading with lolberts and rightoids. And usually I'm on instances which don't block any of the explicitly rightoid or free speach ones😂

@moffintosh@berserker.town It's because they're idealogues who purposefully post inflammatory, controversial, wildly unpopular opinions with zero nuance or irony and proudly wear their allegiances on their sleeves. So they make themselves targets for negative attention. But they get off on it because any attention, positive or negative, is still attention, and they're starved for it. Even OP showing how much negative attention he's getting is, itself, meant to generate more attention. The entire victim complex within contemporary Western liberalism is an attention-seeking mechanism.
