Usually, apps that accept donations or payments link your profile information with the personal info you provide when making a payment, like your address and bank info. Signal works differently. Signal uses an anonymous credential scheme including blinding, zero knowledge proofs, & more to ensure we’re not connecting your donation information with your Signal account. And we don’t store any of the information you send to payment processors.

RCS only exists for one or two apps right now. It has the same problems Signal without SMS support does. I can't reach people with only Signal messages or only RCS that I need to.That's why even the apps that support RCS have SMS to fallback to. It's also why Signal removing SMS support is such a stupid move.@Avishek @vik @signalapp

@tcely @vik @signalapp I just hope they divert their time, effort, and money from continuing the support for SMS to implementing RCS on Signal. Also, I think it's more of an American problem. For people in Europe and this part of the world, SMS is an expensive option that nobody uses. On a not-so-serious note, killing SMS from the Android world wouldn't be a bad idea, IMO, if you want to force Apple to adopt RCS. 😈

@AvishekS'funny but in a lot of places SMS is free, and data requires extra money. SMS support in Signal is relatively simple, is not exactly high maintenance, and has been pointed out elsewhere only needs an on/off flag. Those who object to it philosophically can turn it off, and people in less fortunate circumstances can continue to use it. Frankly, the idea of removing SMS is elitist.@tcely @signalapp

@vikyup, that is higly needed to keep that. i know people who are not tech friendly and keep Signal just because they can also send SMS. they told me they will go back to the not secured default sms app of their phone when Signal will leave that. that is a net loss for many people and privacy général Cover.
