there is an inherent tension in the fediverse being a project of the underground. we need to build autonomous systems of support while also enabling our detractors to use and contribute to this infrastructure. there are fascists and cops and millionaires using the fediverse now. there are capitalists and anarcho-capitalists here. there are terfs and bigots building systems of power here. block them to your hearts content but this is not enough nor is it a lasting solution.

@liaizon this is a problem with FOSS as it is currently defined/understood. i remember being a young nerd in beirut v stressed out that an overly permissive software license would allow unsavory local militias to use my code (which was a PHP port of the jQuery API because I am 1,000 years old) but i was patted on the head online and told not to fret and that good ideas rise to the top and that sunlight is the best disinfectant etc etc etc western liberal nonsense. thats why we wrote the ACSL 🤷

I am glad you are here @nasser...I think we are in a very pivotal time right now and I am very glad there are people with such a diverse set of experiences here. remembering that "this place" is literally a multiverse and that we are simultaneously building an infinite amount of new worlds and new possibilities in every action we all take

@liaizon not that I think IP law will save us or anything lol, but the ACSL at the very least makes the statement that the things we are making are not intended for everyone, not intended for capitalists or agents of the state. FOSS is stuck in the nonsense position that if everyone just shared code the world will automatically become better. we've run that experiment and that clearly doesn't work.
