I know it's apples and oranges but when I constantly hear about the crypto hacks, bankruptcies, CEOs who dissapear with billions etc etc it all feels like one big joke.. :thinktink: Soo much worth just goes up into smoke each year and for what.. One energy consuming planet destroying network with extremely high feesIf I look at projects like Mastodon its hard to even fund the servers let alone have millions for a network. I do keep wondering, maybe the crypto bros do wanna get fcked over

@stux I do think the idea behind stuff like FileCoin sounds noble: An open network where hosters cannot monopolise and get rewarded fairly for solid service. In the end it's all greed, pyramid schemes and de facto monopolies though. Luckily, it seems the tech industry (and the German government :D) woke up to seeing it for what it is.

@stux same here. Really. All that monetary stuff has turned into madness with worshipped billionaires, uncontrolled multi national companies and that bitcoin stuff. There needs to be some other way to measure people than by their account… that‘s a wide field .

@stux It's not just crypto. I'm constantly astounded by the gaming world. Salivating at a new rig you could fry an egg on (that's if the new #Nvidia gpu hasn't already fried the wiring).Good to see when cpu makers major on megaflops per dollar rather than - mine has more megaflops than yours.

@stux Hey, a question (if you can be bothered) - I'm currently involved in discussions of better image handling to reduce storage space and increase quality. But there's always tradeoffs.Mastohost combines CPU and disk costs together - any clue what the ratio of disk costs vs. CPU is?They also soak bandwidth costs up into the fixed rental costs - any clue what percent it is in reality?Lastly, how much of a limit is CPU vs. disk space? Is CPU idle most of the time, just busy in peaks?

@stux the network is not the problem. The entire banking system of the world consumes more energy than the BTC network. Forget that.It’s the people. For these people everything needs to be a pump or a lie - something ridiculous.They are disgusted by truth and everything they care about is emptying wallets.I am not sure if most of them are thieves or just delusional, but they are the problem. @stux From an energy perspective Layer 2 Ethereum is the only protocol I've seen that can work at scale, especially after the recent merge to proof of stake. The fees are also much lower.

@stux Until I blocked them, I was dealing with one elsewhere, who apparently had enough awareness that it’s an extremely scammy space but still thought that the Ponzi Scheme that they were invested in was “real”.These are usually the sort who are surprised when the leopards start eating their faces.
