Here's some nerd shit:The Jedi are a quasi-religious order that snatched children from families and stamped out competing doctrines with lightsabers and colonization. They're not "good guys:" they're literally an oppressive force.Makes you really question how the lightsaber was a more civilized weapon for a more civilized age, and the ways that the Jedi acted as guardians of peace and prosperity before the Empire.

I'm not saying that the Sith are the alternative: I'm saying that there's plenty of canonical evidence for the Jedi as embodying the worst kind of colonial impulses, despite their status as the "good guys" of the franchise.Honestly, if you think about it, what happened with Anakin Skywalker was a direct consequence of these practices, but that's none of MY business.

@shengokai I think the most damning evidence for the Jedi being bad news is the "sequel" sequels almost meticulously mirrored the plot of the original "sequels." Rebels fighting a tyrannical empire lording over the entire galaxy... didn't they *defeat* the empire? If the ideals of these Jedi rebels always leads back to some horrible death star space station, then Luke was right to peace out and tell them to fuck off.

@shengokai An intriguing and challenging post. So you're riffing on the Jedi as we see them in the prequels, just before their leadership make a string of mistakes that enables a significantly worth colonial power to rise (Sidious' Empire). Maybe the implication is that this is not a coincidence? Maybe the Jedi of the prequels are a decadent and degraded version of what began as a more idealistic movement? Like what the Catholic Church had devolved into by the time of the Reformation?
