@sjors @RdoPeta whether twitter block-together lists or fediblock, these common block lists are always such a predictable speed-run from "this list of clearly abusive people" to "these people discuss technology i vaguely don't like", always with the same disregard for collateral damage

@orionwl @RdoPeta indeed. But on Twitter the damage is much more limited. If you try to follow someone you accidentally blocked, you'll see it. And in Twitter threads you usually see "Blah blah hidden" and occasionally most people will be curious enough to check. Or they'll see a friend retweet something, and will click to see what it is. Nothing of the sort with the way Mastodon works. The instance-block safe space is 100% sterile and vacuum sealed.

thinking of shutting down x0f.org (including mastodon, all bots and matrix server) by the end of 2022if you're interested in taking anything over (like the IRC/matrix/mastodon notification service, etc) please get in touch… but only if you're really interested don't feel guilt tripped into it because of "someone has to do it" nonsense

@orionwl That would be a shame.I'm still on mastodon.xyz since 2017 and as far as I can tell, they're largely tolerant and not so ban-happy, otherwise I would have left already.I find many mastodon instances, especially the ones with "mastodon" in the name incredibly boring monocultures, particularly because they're so prudish.Being banned by some of them is probably not such a big deal.I've been wondering about hosting an instance myself. Main issue is I don't have much free time.

@orionwl the natural response is to be disgusted by the ignorance about the people we are. But I'm much less interested in that, than what happened to our online culture that blocking people that say things you don't like is considered virtuous (when it's the opposite imo).

@orionwl @RdoPeta don’t lose your sleep over it, I mean, in that list they block instances because they use a specific frontend for #pleroma wtfReminded me of the movies disallowed in some religious circles. I always feel pity for them because they will be missing pretty awesome movies but hey, it is their choice.

@orionwl Do you know if I would be able to import *posts* from an exported archive?Posts are listed when exporting, but the importing preference wants you to specify what you're importing (followers/bookmarks/etc), but 'posts' isn't on that list.I've been calling it a-social media and I don't foresee my stopping with that anytime soon.
