I moved my account from mastodon.social to hachyderm.io in the five minutes between meetings. AMA.

@ahrkrak Have all of your followers moved, yet?

@mattb yup, it happened automatically. I manually exported and imported the list of people I follow; not sure if that would have happened automatically if I hadn't done that.

@ahrkrak @mattb I am pretty sure that as of now, Mastodon does not follow the users that you follow when you switch accounts, it's an interesting feature but I am happy you managed to export the list of the people you follow before you switched.

@oklomsy @ahrkrak It did happen automatically for me when I did it, but it took a few days to complete. Most happened within an hour or so, though.

@mattb @oklomsy @ahrkrak it's unfortunate that followers and followed/following/followees are so close to each other...What they were saying is that while the accounts that followed their account updated to reflect their migration, their newly designated account didn't acquire a list of accounts to follow from their pre migration account. This is the state of things in Mastodon.

@jsoref @mattb @oklomsy true enough. I should emphasize though that it was super easy to export and reimport. At least it’s better than changing your email provider!! Automatic “move my account” options (alert all my correspondents, set up forwarding, and transfer my contact lists) don’t exist in that world at all. Even physical mail forwarding is better!
