       Waiting for my new cheap #laptop, #Acer Aspire 5 AMD to be delivered this afternoon. Still not sure witch #LinuxDistribution I will install. #Fedora, #Ubuntu, #PopOS? I think I’m more a #Gnome fan than a Linux user. Is that possible? I’m more used to Ubuntu based distro. But I much prefer the clean Gnome desktop in Fedora. And Gnome-Software instead of Pop Shop or the Snap Store. It’s all Mastodon’s fault if I’m going back to the Linux rabbit hole! 😅#Linux #Foss #rabbithole

       @aldo I'd argue it's a bit like Vim or Emacs.  Once you get settled you're unable to go to anything else -- speaking as both a NixOS and Neovim user -- similar learning curves too.That said, I've found it super worth it, and highly recommend it if declaratively configuring all the things is something you want /cc @ClaudeChampagne

       @rummik I wholly agree 100% with your answer. #nix and #nixos are investments of your time that will pay the more you invest in them.When I started with #nix I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of documentation that is only helpful once you have an understanding. They are working on improving such a big gap for newcomers.But @ClaudeChampagne I started installing only #nix as pkg manager and started slowly migrating towards it and now all my systems & my company's systems are running on Nix

       I agree with @aldo and @rummik @ClaudeChampagne I would add a word of caution though. #Nix & #NixOS has a frustrating learning curve. It took me 10 mins to realise the potential and decide I wanted to use it, about a year to feel comfortable with it all. I would just say to hang in there if you do go down this route. The community is fantastic, there's always someone willing to help.

I share the same as @bmcgee84 short period of mind blown. followed by a journey mixed with love and pain. Ask questions. Many of us are friendly.
