I feel sick about #clubq #coloradosprings. It feels so very targeted. It’s fucking scary to be #queer and #trans in today’s society. The world is doing its best to push us into smaller and smaller spaces. Then, when we do create these smaller spaces, they invade those too.

I’m feeling the feels I never felt when the Pulse shooting happened. I was too far in the closet and in denial. I was so numb and far removed from anything #queer related that I didn’t have any kind of strong emotions, other than vague sadness, the same as I would for any other shooting

Geographically, it may be far from me in #nanaimo on #vancouverisland in #canada, but this feels so close to home. This is my community, those are my people. And we’re being murdered just for being who we are. It’s close to home because these attitudes of #homophobia and #transphobia bleed over. We’re attached to the US at the hip, and their politics (as sad as it is that humans are political) influences ours so much.

Just look at #nanaimopoltics . Anti #sogi rhetoric is rampant, with folks like Tanner Scott and his circlejerk of buddies nominating themselves for school board trustee, city council, and mayor. #antitrans propaganda from LGB Alliance and others is being posted around town and handed out to patrons of local businesses. They’re trying to gather forces, trying to get into positions of power. It’s starts with jokes but it ends in violence. #bcpoli #nanaimo

It feels like there are no safe spaces. And it’s my job to create safe spaces! Sure, they may be safer than others, but are they truly safe? Instead of feeling like a haven, it‘s like being backed into a corner. I feel like I’m being hunted, I’m In survival mode, and it’s hard to function. @ryn Unless you are a Brazilian trans prostitute, you are part of the safest demographic in the western world. There have been exactly zero trans murders in the last few years in Canada. The two a few years ago were related in one case to drug trafficking and the other was murdered by his non-binary roommate. No one gives a shit how you identify.
