as elitist as it sounds, the medical field doesnt consider dentists or optometrists real doctors and therefore the separation of field and insurance coverage

@watch4thedrop That's odd. In the 19th century in many communities the Dentist was the Doctor.

@watch4thedrop Although optometrists and opticians are not considered medical doctors, ophthalmologists are.

@watch4thedrop An oftalmologist is a medical doctor. An optometrist is a technician.A dentist is a doctor in dentistry.Nothing elitist about it.

Those are fundamentally different fields. Those fields developed quite independently. They are all different parts of health care, irrespective of that morons' statement.

@watch4thedrop Medical insurance doesn’t cover eyes and teeth because they’d go broke. I did a quick Google search and on average, 80% of people will have at least one cavity before the age of 17. Corrective eyewear is needed by approximately 75% of the population. Insurance cost is based on risk, not need.

@watch4thedrop It's more like cost regulation. Everything the insurance companies have to provide coverage for, the more expensive insurance premiums become overall. Big part of why Obamacare made premiums jack up was the amount of new things insurance had to pay for. The "essential benefits".That and the fact that Obamacare plans work the opposite of regular insurance plans. The more people on a plan, the lower the cost. That difference is taken out on everyone else's premiums.

@watch4thedrop When more things become covered by insurance, the more people try to take advantage of it.So logically, why should I get an extra $20 a week on my premium because everyone else decides to flock to the doctor for cavities and teeth cleaning.Separate branches of insurance let me opt out of participating in that.

@watch4thedrop My medical care covered those, but I have to check if that changed ever since Obamacare started.
