@shadowfacts it just means they use the same selectors in their private API, and they can’t tell that you’re not using them. I think the keyboard ones are probably OK, because I’m pretty sure those are the same selectors I used.

@tewha yeah, i've been using these for years and i guess they just became private. if their strategy is "find all the not-explicitly-public selectors in UIKitCore.framework and the rest", they should at least choose less obvious ones that are likely to have been used by devs

@shadowfacts this is only minor, but the tab order between home / federated / local feels off. In most apps it’s home / local / federated, which in my opinion also makes more sense since it’s broadening the scope the further you go to the right.

@shadowfacts I love Tusker and have been using the beta for the last day. I’m getting a lot of “unknown notifications,” which I THINK are instance admin notifications that new users are joining the server. They’re handled very generically in other apps like metatext but there it at least picks up the username.

@shadowfacts hi! Thanks for this! First impression: not a fan of the filled icons for reply, favorite etc. that implies to me that the action was taken, and it also makes them stand out as I scroll. Think hollow / filled for favorite and then different styles for actions. Thanks again! Love checking out these new takes!

@tapforms it is hooked up. look at a conversation with content warnings or long posts, otherwise there's nothing to expand/collapse.

@salamahal that preference controls whether counts are shown on the "main" post of a conversation. fav/reblog counts on timelines are deliberately not a feature because:a) it's not possible to show the accurately for remote posts (and that's why the screen accessible from the conversation main post bears a warning)b) I think it's an anti-feature, in that it trains you to predicate your interaction of/interaction with a post on the numbers rather than the post itself

@shadowfacts Thanks for replying.a) I didn’t see a warning on main post. This info is available in other apps, is it wrong in them?b) if you don’t want to predicate interactions, why show a trending post feed? How can you evaluate trending posts if you can’t see the trends? c) Also, the Main post doesn’t show # of replies— it just lists them. You don’t know if you are scrolling through 20 or 2,000.

@salamahal The warning is shown on the list of favs/reblogs (see screenshot). Other apps do indeed show inaccurate counts (if you're on instance A and you see a post from instance B that was fav'd by someone from instance C, A has no way of knowing about that fav and won't tell you about it)The idea is that showing them on the timeline biases you in favor of interacting with already-popular stuff when you're just scrolling through the home timeline. Showing them only for trends is a possibilityThe reply count wouldn't give you a good sense of how much stuff there is on the Conversation view, because it flattens subthreads where possible and Mastodon's reply count only includes immediate replies. Looking at the scroll bar should give you a decent sense of how long the convo is

@shadowfacts Loving the new Tusker beta. I have a feature request: could there be better visualization of replies on the home timeline? I’d love to have an approximate count of replies, or other visualization indicating how much conversation exists around the post. For me, it’s a time saving thing—visualization here would be helpful to know if I should click to see the expanded post view. Also, if a post has a lot of replies, I want to click to see what the hubbub is about. Thanks!
