We're talking about the mecha of terrorism in the galaxy. That was given a chance to surrender, told the empire to go fuck itself, and only wanted to surrender when they learned the planet could be blown up. PR would be good. On the surface, you have the Empire making the decisive move to end the terrorist threat in the galaxy. Privately, you understand that they can end the terrorist threat in the galaxy. Like dropping the Atomic bomb on Japan was unnecessary for the war. They'd already surrendered three times. It was to show the soviets we had it, it worked, and we were willing to use it.Prolonged action like seiging the planet would be a black eye for the Empire. Blowing it up is a swift action. Better PR. Syria did this to a city that rebelled against the regime. For a few days they shelled the city and then they surrendered. Afterward, an imam said they used to practice religion and politics in the city (I forget its name and don't want to try and find where this was referenced). Now they only practice religion.

If not by the Rebellion then by whatever group followed in it's footsteps.Palpatine hadn't really been winning himself many friends after the Clone Wars and where his attention wasn't focused there was plenty of open space for Imps in positions of power to let it go to their head and make trouble for those under their heels. On top of that Palpatine and Vader were having a cold war as Sith Lords do, playing a game of wasting resources and personal attempting to interfere with each other. Palpatine also spent way too many resources on things that weren't worth their effectiveness. With the manning and resources spent on building and crewing the Death Star, he probably could have built a whole fleet of Star Destroyers, or some other star fleet. I'm confident having a wider net to cast across the stars would be as equally imposing as a moon sized space station while being harder to deal with since the Rebellion would probably have a harder time netting an underdog win. The Rebels can be blamed for turning it into space dust sure, but it's Palpatine's fault for building the damn thing twice.The problem is that people of today don't understand the nuance that makes the Empire evil, especially the ones writing Star Wars. Republic's can be flawed, and when corrupted are no different then a dictatorship other then who is ruling; But a Dictatorship is flawed by design, and almost always seems to bleed into corruption.

My aunt actually had one of those outside of her house when I was growing up, it was like attached to a pillar in front of the house then when I was about 14, the township had it removed even though she actually really liked it and thought it was cute. They’re both very smart, like their mom. My son is already in tech school for stuff he is interested and good in. Both cars and computers. He’s a little more like me in regards to staying in and being a social butterfly. My daughter is the opposite. Always played basketball and soccer, a star athlete in our area. She retired that to focus hard on studying and pre college internships this summer. They’re both very different but highly intelligent. I can’t say it came from me, but I’ve always been here to help them how I can.
