You can get different results from hashtag searches by doing them on different servers. Eg if you compare the results you get searching the 'juggling' tag on my instance... https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/tags/juggling... to the results you get for the same tag here...https://hackers.town/tags/juggling... you'll see some of the same posts, but also some different ones. This is particularly helpful for those of you with accounts on newer or small servers trying to find your kin.#FediTips

Fedi apps giving us an option to perform a hashtag search on different server would be handy for folks on smaller servers, and especially single-user servers.

@jet a link would be cool, thanks AFAIK a couple of such search portals have been set up and then harassed into oblivion, by a minority of very aggressive people who think indexing and search of public posts = surveillance.Strangely, these people seem to have no problem with the PeerTube search portal:https://search.joinpeertube.org/search?search=Derek+Caelin&sort=-match&host=&page=1

Eg if it was integrated into Fedi apps with no way to choose a different provider. But it's mere existence is no more anti-federation than the PT one I linked (did you try it?).

@strypey yeah I did look at the PT search. These things seem wholly useful to me and we have access / permission settings on what we post. I don't get the complaint.

@jetJust had a look at:https://mastovue.glitch.meIt's not even a universal search like the PT one. It just provides a simple interface for doing what I suggested in the OP. Which means the people hassling you for sharing it most likely didn't even look at it before grabbing their pitchforks. Oh well, concern trolls gonna concern troll ;)
