Ok time for financial advice for my fellow leafs.The maritime provinces are full of dying boomers who's estate is inherited by a disinterested party which would rather dump it than hold a potentially spectacular asset.A lot of them are fixer uppers to varying degrees.I just found an almost 10 acre hobby farm with 4+ bedrooms that can realistically be haggled down to a 5 digit price. The asking price is already almost there. It will need a big cosmetic job, but is otherwise in great shape. It is also in a good location.I will not be posting said property because I have already passed it along to someone that can do something with it, but this type of property is common.Understand that housing demand will ONLY go up as the feds try to import 500k people a year while construction of new housing falls behind. Boomers will continue to die off, but the supply of boomers is limited. Also remember to do your research. There's lots of programs to help you get a down payment for a first home that can significantly reduce the risk of buying a property, but there's also the risk of wherever you buy. I've seen people buy houses and then they've got five figure a year land taxes. You just need to know ahead of time so you can plan accordingly.With a relatively inexpensive property and low land taxes and reasonable utilities, you suddenly don't need a god tier job to have a comfortable and happy life.

Well that is a classic case of not my problem. Not having that much cash on hand is a skill issue. Regardless there are non-fixer uppers with cheap pricetags comparable to other places too.When I say fixer upper in this case I mean that it's an outdated boomer dwelling that if you were to freshen up you could make 100% profit on. These aren't too difficult to get a mortgage on. First-time homebuyer loans in Canada are pretty solid if you have to go that way.

No not in my experience. I am not super familiar as I am up north near miramichi, but undoubtedly the south is less shitholesque than the north, and I rather like where I ended up. In my travels, passing through, I found the area around sussex to be quite pastoral and pretty, with a bit more terrain than near me. Sussex used to have a big agricultural auction, which is now smaller but still present. The properties around there seemed to be in fairly good repair, other than the abandoned boomer estates that you mentioned. St John is a nice town and you are not too far from the bay of fundy tourist stuff that is very popular. I think if I had been more familiar with all the places in the province I might have purchased further south, just for the better agricultural climate and varied terrain, but I rather like being on the fringe between weird french guys and irish hicks, and have very nice neighbours.

I have to say as well, I am not rich like fr fr not rich. I have good credit and mobility as a result of the work I do. But now I own woodland and a house and am not really pressed financially even. So it is really doable, you just have to be willing to leave ontario and BC and fuck halifax or wherever people are trampling over each other to live.Its really not bad in the country.

This is the truth. I just meant for anyone with that concern that everything is shitty in the maritimes. It may be less wealthy but everyone who visited me remarked that they expected it to be more rundown. I think its a thing people assume, who have not been. The acadians, especially, seem quite put together and have very neat yards, most infrastructure is as well maintained as you expect.And to your point I've never eaten so well, and after a month or 2 being back in vancouver (for a bit) eating goyslop once again, I feel noticeably less vigorous. Come out east and fish some stripers!

Depends how far north we are talking. The infrastucture from Toronto to Thunderbay is developed enough to allow some spread. If you mean further further north towards Hudson Bay then probably. For the next while at least.
