It baffles me how people act like it’s totally upstanding for the gov to not just retain, but propagate the CSAM they get. We had a fed-nig talk to us in HS, trying to sell kids in the CTE classes about joining the FBI to save the kids. From what I remember he bragged about how they catalog and disseminate it pretending they’re doing the right thing by entrapping those who receive it…..except from what I see from their arrest announcements, they don’t really entrap all that many people from downloading their material. Most of their arrests aren’t high-tech, they’re dependent upon the mailing system, or people turning in perverts because of their IRL actions. It’s like torrenting media on the pirate bay, then only arresting the people who buy pirated DVDs and ship them to their house. Not sure how true that is, or if it’s stayed that way in the years since, but holy hell it’s probably one of the darker, more infernal things they do with tax money, and that’s saying a hell of a lot. I’m not sure how to pass down that horror to future generations, because people didn’t seem to find any issue about it when we were told about it.

All you need to look at is how they "captured" that server on the dark web of that stuff, continued to run it for months to get the bad actors, supposedly tracked 10k plus people which netted a few hundred arrests and only a few dozen did anytime.I also remember articles from a decade ago about how many government computers would visit that stuff on a daily basis and I know there was another recent report that basically said the same thing.
