@coolboymew I can’t even fathom how that bug could even existIt’s like they halfway implemented local co-op, gave up and decided to merge the code anyway

@VD15 @coolboymew sounds like extremely shitty event-based implementation, like “when receiving non-zero control stick input, increase the player velocity/acceleration in x direction by y”. Double the sticks, double the inputs, double the events, double the speed.

@VD15 @coolboymew sum input axes together, like you'd do for d-pad plus left stick. Someone forgot to cap the result before using it as a velocity multiplier. Makes perfect sense to just have summed inputs to avoid pad1 vs pad2 confusion in a game like this.

@coolboymew @VD15 ha, similar situation to the FF8 world map then where they cap axial speeds but don't normalize the vector so you can go (+1,+1) for sqrt(2) times speed.

sun and moon were more or less full 3D environments and they were on the 3DS which, by all accounts, is actually fairly similar to the switch (the devs for the switch emulator Yuzu are the same ones for 3DS's Citra and that's part of why it progressed so fast).plus, they already have a bunch of switch releases under their belt and, as fair as i remember, the "pokemon let's go" games are totally fine in terms of performance and graphic quality. their other games are, for the most part, inoffensive too. it seems like game freak's pokemon games are just actively getting worse for some reason.

@beardalaxy @Nelenese the thing that pissed me off about what I saw of sun and moon is that some indoor areas are outright recycled from X and Y IIRC, up to the design and object placement. They just gave the objects a new style. Massively lazy>sun and moon were more or less full 3D environments and they were on the 3DS which, by all accounts, is actually fairly similar to the switch (the devs for the switch emulator Yuzu are the same ones for 3DS's Citra and that's part of why it progressed so fast). It shows for Pokemon. It looks like they're massively reusing their 3DS engine, on top of still designing areas as if it was a 3DS

@coolboymew @beardalaxy @Nelenese Pokemon aside, the Switch is the only thing keeping "Triple A" games runnable on hardware consumers can actually purchase, rather than requiring everyone already have 4090TIs pre-launch.

that, and the fact that ps5/xbox series aren't very easily obtainable still, and the ps4 was one of the highest selling consoles of all time so there is still a huge market there. games releasing on multiple platforms still have to support that ps4 spec if the publishers want to maximize profit. switch obviously factors into this too, given that it has sold pretty well, but it is weaker than a ps4 and some games are just never going to be able to run on it unless they severely compromise the intended vision (which i think may be the case with something like bayonetta 3).with PCs, i'm sure the steam surveys are also looked at, showing what hardware is the most popular so that devs can at least target a minimum spec being a GTX 1060 or 1660, for instance.
