Seems like ruby.social Mastodon instance is getting slower the more people join and actually use it – I see loading bars more and more, homepage response time is 2+ seconds, and submitting a post takes a few seconds. Guess, many people will learn the price of hosting a popular application sooner rather then later #noxp

@kpumuk the performance of the server a few days ago was the result of another huge wave of incoming accounts across the whole federation. I wouldn't expect that to be typical.

Due to decentralized nature of fediverse, everything must by synced between all instances, so everybody can read your feed without living your own instance. The more servers we have — the more processing power will be needed to keep the system alive. How this plays out in real life: "Why every toot is also a potential denial of service attack" https://ar.al/2022/11/09/is-the-fediverse-about-to-get-fryed-or-why-every-toot-is-also-a-potential-denial-of-service-attack/

@kpumuk I think it would be cool (maybe this exists) if it would show how many accounts are on an instance, and some other high level stats -- I have no idea how many ruby.social accounts there are

@aesthetikx @kpumuk you can see the number of active accounts on the about page (though it hides on narrow viewports. The relevant API call is https://ruby.social/api/v2/instance).We have around 4,500 local accounts, and almost 3,000 of those have been active in the last month.

@aesthetikx @kpumuk There's ~150 patrons on https://patreon.com/rubysocial at the moment, so that's 5% of the active users already 😉 :ruby: 💪
