       @rbates I believe Mastodon does support span tags, maybe there’s a CSS rule to be found which can render that tag as monospace, at the very least?

       @getajobmike @rbates hmm, <span>does it?</span>I think it might support those tags on incoming statuses, but anything it creates itself gets escaped. That's my reading of https://docs.joinmastodon.org/spec/activitypub/#sanitization anyway.

       @getajobmike @rbates this kind of stuff is what may, maybe, _possibly_, at some point, drive ruby.social off the mastodon mainline codebase onto a light fork. But we'll see. It's a much bigger server admin commitment because it would also require leaving mastohost.

       @james @rbates I’d rather see support for embedding things like YouTube videos or, in this case, formatted gists. I believe there has been discussion on supporting markdown.
