       Imagine my surprise when Durkheim's concept of anomie (normlessness) oozed up from deep memory. Quaint but true, the swift disappearance of familiar norms  (anomie) in my macro-social media life is having an impact, viz., unexpected grief. Do #sociology students still study Durkheim?        @meredithgould In fact I had a conversation on here recently with a sociologist, who just recently joined, and was talking about his difficulties in teaching "theory", and his dissatisfaction with the way people doing original work would be asked by reviewers to recast it into terms of Durkheim's categories, among other things.

       @publius I had no problem teaching Durkheim, Weber, and Marx, plus some early feminist social theory to undergrads during the late 70s. Can't imagine doing that today but no problem! I didn't get tenured. #feminist #sociologist 😱
