       My fellow admins will probably lok sideways at me for saying this, but one of the things I genuinely love about the Fediverse is that sometimes servers just temporarily go down.It's a reminder that infrastructure doesn't just happen. If someone is enjoying playing with their kids, or eating dinner, or reading a book or whatever instead of maintaining five nines so we can post about doing those things ...that's Good, Actually.

       This reminds me of some of the work 100rabbits is doing with being offline-first.  as @joepie91 pointed out the IT sector considers uptime a premium.  I came from a place where we had chickens that ate our twisted pair out in villages.  So being offline was just fine for me.I don't like to assume people's age, but back when I was on BBS(s) many times you either hit a busy signal, carrier drop, or a maintenance ASCII screen.  Kind of miss this stuff.

       Then the bill came in at the end of the month.... : - ]I have fond memories of download #Slackware on 14.4k.  So many times I dropped carrier.  Looking back, being offline was a teacher, a guide.  Made me appreciate what we have now a bit more.If you would have told me decades ago I'd have wholesale #fibre piped into my home.  I would have thought you were pulling my chain.

       @y3mz @hugh @joepie91 @enron yep, I was about to allude to BBS culture where busy boards got frequent busy signals.  Wanted more lines?  Buy more time credits!  Or share more files!Nothing was expected to always be available, without some sort of contribution.

       Well said.  This is why #fediverse and general small-internet systems really keep me in the game.  Takes me back to my curious youth.  On my instance (tbd), when I'm offline a proxy will come up with some ridiculous bbs-style maintenance page.  And an API response of `going for coffee` for those on mobile clients :-)
