       @ruud why should I trust you with my account? Honest question, I obviously feel it's better to trust someone on the #mastodon network rather than a #global corporation but why should I trust you specifically? Does it matter? #question

       @riley Don't trust me. You don't know me.Just know that mastodon.world currently has 3 admins and 6 moderators, so it's not just me.And remember, DM's are not encrypted. So even if you would trust me, just don't share any sensitive information on Mastodon. Ever.

       @ruud@mastodon.world @riley@mastodon.world Yes, I am aware that Eugen is doing his best to make sure users don't actually know there's more to the #Fediverse than #Mastodon, which is terrible.A user who goes around to make it look like he does his research should be aware of this, though.

       @tyil Why do you think Eugen does this on purpose? It's just the most popular (and I think most user-friendly) option at the moment. Let people slowly start to understand how it all works and then then can discover other platforms.

       @ruud@mastodon.world Because he's been called out on this many, many times, and he too knows that the #Fediverse is quite a bit older than #Mastodon is. Other Fediverse software doesn't pretend its the only one you can ever use, only Mastodon actively keeps doing it.Why he's doing it, I can't say for certain. I don't know the operation of his mind. You'd have to ask him, like all the other people who have called him out on it, and were conveniently ignored.

       @tyil @ruud ive heard of other software but it seemed like they were all forks of mastodon. i guess i have a lot more to learn! and a lot more of the #fediverse to explore. my main concerns are if a server im using suddenly disappears, or some admin imposing their will on everyone randomly - but i think those could be solved by starting my own instance. anyway, thank you for the information! :P glad to be on #mastodonworld

       @riley @tyil Yes. Only way to be sure is to host your own.But we have donations to run this instance for months now, and a big enough team to ensure the server won't disappear. But, there are nu guarantees.

       @ruud@mastodon.world How exactly does it not? The entire word "fediverse" does not even show up in the official readme... There's a single reference on joinmastodon.com these days, which is relatively new as well. How often has Eugen tried to actually make sure people understand there's more to this network than just Mastodon?Its a very poor move to pretend to be the only one, when he's building upon years of work of other developers.
