Why did Mastodon kill the "proceed to follow" feature for when you end up on on someone's profile page and need to get back home to follow them?Yes it was confusing at first, but this new "copy this URL and then find your way back home on your own and search" is still confusing also feels way more broken.

@datatitian Yes it is easy and smoother on platforms where you are locked in a single gated place where they know who you are and watch your every move.It is technically not possible to click to follow someone when browsing another fedi instance for a couple reasons: 1. The software doesn't track people to even know who is browsing the directory.2. Many of us have multiple accounts and we need to decide from which account to follow.

@BernardIs there any way for your web browser to know if you're logged into an ActivityPub app on the same device (without sharing such info of course), and redirect you to that when you click follow on an AP-enabled site? Multi-account apps could either just follow from the account you're currently using, or ask which one(s) to follow with. Maybe there's some protocol work that needs doing here?@datatitian

When I first saw the PR for killing "proceed to follow," I thought, "oh they must have revamped linking so that you don't end up unnecessarily on people's web profiles any more and they just don't need this feature," but nope I don't see any changes there
