       Many of my non techie friends don’t understand why I’m not on Facebook and it’s because I refuse to let a company take my personal data and use it and sell it. I tried and often failed at not using Twitter until I discovered mastodon because I needed somewhere to get news and make contacts but it was always at a really high price. I hope that more journalists come to the platform and we take back our privacy and ability to communicate without having to be used and sold.

       @nobushia I have no Facebook; Twitter; Pinterest; or Instagram. I feel like if some border guard wanted access to my online accounts i'd be getting cavity searched because they wouldn't believe me.

       @PublicLewdness I am working on wiping myself from the internet as best I can. I have a ton of great links favourited in an old insta account that I plan on going through and bookmarking the links in my browser so I can close that account and be done with it. Once that’s done, I will strictly be on mastodon, libera chat, and old school email. I’m also working on moving to protonmail.

       @nobushia Yeah, really wish I could free myself completely from FB. But sadly it is so easy, even for non-tech people, to create a new group that FB is where every group or activity post news and updates. Is there private groups on Mastodon? 🤔

       @belfinwe not to my knowledge no. There is a fediverse “Facebook” though but I can’t recall the name of it at the moment. It might be neat but I don’t think it’s anywhere near as popular as mastodon.

       @belfinwe @verita84 @PublicLewdness yeah I’m goi g to check it out as well. Facebooks time has come. Once more people realize they can have a social network and not pay for it with their data and privacy, it will catch on! As soon as I am able I want to support the instances I am on.
