       Journalists and editors all over America are trying to figure out how to embed a toot in their horrible little CMS.

       @jwb the oldest trick works the best: take a screenshot and post a link

       @boilingsteam @jwb Which is the least accessible method and bandwidth hungry.<blockquote> FTW

       @BalooUriza @jwb in the web client, yes. I guess journalists are used to having their CMS recognize twitter links automatically and convert them into proper iframes

       @lanodan @jwb true, accessibility is a problem, but with Mastodon I'd be more worried about the instance not existing a few years down the road making the embed result in a 404. A screenshot removes that risk.

       @boilingsteam @BalooUriza @jwb Also many CMSes don’t actually let writers or editors insert HTML code

       @corbin @BalooUriza @jwb HTML gives too much freedom to make a boring wall of text more pleasant to read, It needs to be regulated!

       @boilingsteam @jwb Pile of articles are also gonna be dead together with twitter.And I've seen that also quite few times when an account gets suspended, but it's been rare here (Europe) as client-side embedding of third-party ressources is probably borderline illegal with GDPR.

       @boilingsteam @lanodan @jwb Yeah but you can fake screenshots. Besides you don't escape that problem if the admin decides to clean out the media storage and yeets the image or if the article gets moved to an archive and the links no longer resolve correctly.

       @Elirairah @lanodan @jwb no easy solution anyway. A screenshot solves many problems but everything can be faked no matter how you look at it. Its also very easy to fake a Mastodon instance and have a fake user with the same username if you want to go that route.

       @boilingsteamI hope they try to go with embeds for a while, if only so instances have some form of self defense against these fuckers trying to direct harassment against trans people or otherwise treat random people as case studies without their consent.It won't last, they'll adjust, but them having to learn why people fucking hate them for this and are sabotaging their embeds might convince some to update their ethics policies and at least ask first.@lanodan @jwb

       @Helmic @boilingsteam @jwb Except I'm pretty sure that journalists are just a cog in a newspaper. There's a reason it's such a corrupt business.
