It's so weird that un-suspending Trump restores all of his tweets because based on GDPR regulations data can only be retained for 30 days after a user has initiated a removal request, which can only be done if you're logged in and you can't log in when you're suspended. What a fascinating illustration of a flagrant GDPR compliance violation put on full display in a very public way, the kind of thing that really frees up an ex-employee to draw attention to it without breaking their NDA.

I sure hope no EU regulatory agencies notice this because companies violating GDPR may be fined up to €20 million, or up to 4% of the revenue generated in the previous fiscal year, whichever is higher! And in 2021 Twitter's revenue was $5 billion, which could mean $200 million in fines!Boy would it be tough to be hit with that kind of fine if you'd fired your entire compliance and legal teams. That'd be a real shame.

@realcaseyrollins @rodhilton I had the same question. "based on GDPR regulations data can only be retained for 30 days after [scenario that didn't apply to Trump]".....so b/c that scenario didn't apply, data would have been retained and thus restored.

@caffeneko @realcaseyrollins To comply with regulations, if you keep data on a user they have to be able to request its deletion (the "right to be forgotten").Suspended accounts cannot do this. Therefore, suspended accounts need to have their data deleted after 30 days. That's not happening, as illustrated by a 2-year-old account being restored. In case it's not totally apparent, Trump's particular account isn't the issue. He's, uh, not in Europe.
