The first time I got in contact with crypto (Bitcoin) was back in '09 when it just rolled out and it was still fun! These days I am so against the crypto bs since it's taken over by the world and ruined big time. It was always a thing of the nerds but nowadays it's totally out of control.. To be honest I really much enjoy the fall of the crypto world currently done by the hand of silly Friedman :flan_laugh: Kinda hoping this is finally the end and I finally get to tell "i told ya so"

@stux yes and no.The crypto pump was definitely oit of control. Bitcoin to 100k can happen under some very specific circumstances (no, not the stock to flow bs, but under the total collapse of the $, which will take another 10 years minimum).Crypto does have a very promising future in terms if borderless payments. Especially for high risk merchants like adult entertainment, forex etc. where many payments are declined. The demand is massive. Crypto and fist will coexist. Just fuck pumps.

@stux Crypto is the way to exchange money without depdnding on govs, VISA, MasterCard, МИР, etc. Not a way to literally gamble on it.

@stux I think the problem is that those DeFi tech companies and crypto exchanges are destroying the original purpose of cryptocurrency - to be a P2P cashless system that helps to bypass restrictions and surveillance. That being said, as a cryptocurrency user (paying for some privacy-focused services and making donations), I also enjoy companies like FTX being burnt to the ground.

@stux Etherum is the mother of all the alt coin bs. Most things are built on eth and without it we don't have many scammers or crap projects.Bitcoin has nothing to do with all those altcoin crap. But I understand why people think this😄

@stux Trans people sometimes use crypto to buy DIY hormones, so it can be a lifesaver.

@stux don't forget how horrendously bad for the environment it is to use massive amounts of non-green electricity to "mine" cryptocurrencies, which require more and more computer power as the Blockchain gets longer.

@stux Cryptocurrency as a commodity was a construct of the TechBro marketeers. All bark and no bite, and never thought out thoroughly. I just hope that the public (along with their legislators/regulators) doesn’t conflate cryptocurrency with blockchain tech. I’m worried that the SBFs of the world have stained these technologies to the point where they end up being punitively overly regulated.

@stux yeah, it became a scam once the cryptobros came in. i figured, it was reaching the apex once i started seeing attractive men and women promoting XYZ coin flavor of the hour and then switching to a different one the next. all the while, bragging about how much money they just made off it. it just was cringe moves that reminds me of the slimy real estate markets in the 1980s usa.

@stux haven't been following what's happening, but I think today's "crypto people" have forgotten the original purpose of crypto :bitcoin:Especially with investments and NFTs, and all the rest, it's gone from being a decentralised money system to a centralised system to make money :ethereum:

@stux You and me both. Have a couple coworkers into it and have very maturely resisted the “I told you so” urge so far. I’m angry bc neither friend can really afford to lose any investments.

@stux I see this point in crypto history as an extinction level event for those coins, companies, people who set out to exploit the idea of new digital currencies. Those who studied PT Barnum, pyramid and Ponzi schemes. The surviving elements will be stronger as a result of the cauldron. The public will be more knowledgeable. The future will have some interesting surprises that bring crypto into the mainstream again, but in different forms for different reasons.

@stux Crypto is using one's electric bill as money, and people actually accepting that as payment. But it's actually worse. It is a simulation of an incorrect theory of money, that money is the extraction and hoarding of precious resources. (Money is actually tokens of agreement between persons. It could be balls of lint, were that the social consensus.)
