       #BlackMastodon serious question from an autistic person: what are the rules around referring to a respected elder Black woman as "Miss [first name]"? I've noticed inconsistency of usage and it's something I'd really like to get right in practice.

       @akamran As we are not a monolith it varies. Just 1- don't call a BW Auntie unless your Mom & her Mom are best friends2- unless a BW has a lot of visible grey hair say Miss over ma'am3- You can always say "how may I address you, is Mr/Miss/Mx [first name] okay?And they'll tell you. US born is sometimes different from overseas born, North from South, East coast/ West coast etc.
