Do I really need to build myself #Emacs 28 on Debian, or am I missing something?

@potato_lisper I'm using #Emacs 28 on #Debian since August. I'm running Debian testing, but get Emacs from unstable. It does not yet migrate to testing because of various issues, AFAIK related "--with-native-compilation" of #elisp.Anyway, it works pretty well, even #EXWM 🙂

@potato_lisper It's one of lifes big mysteries why it's easier to install the crown jewel of free software in its latest released version on a Mac than in Linux.Thankfully compiling Emacs is really easy and dependencies are just an apt build-dep emacs away.

@nthcdr just needed to do some mix and match from debian unstable. apt pinning to the rescue http://jaqque.sbih.org/kplug/apt-pinning.html

@dekkzz76 @debacle it's in unstable and flatpak won't work for me, but I solved it with apt-pinning

@potato_lisper there is also emacs.secretsauce.net. It is what I use but I had to install libgccjit0 and libc6-dev-amd64-cross to get native comp to play nice. Also added to init.el: (setenv "LIBRARY_PATH" (string-join '("/usr/x86_64-linux-gnu/lib") ":")) #emacs #debian
