       There's a thread where someone talks about all of the things they hate about Mastodon, and that it's not for them. That's great! It's definitely not for everyone, Twitter will still be around, there's Cohost and more will come.But I see a common misconception about Mastodon.

       Mastodon is a piece of software, like Wordpress.Mastodon isn't a company+service like Twitter/Tumblr.You're free to download it and run it on your site, like Wordpress. People can use Wordpress to make anything from cute homepages to managing their KKK chapter.

       Mastodon is a tool that people can use to publish and share information, like Wordpress. If people use it for awful stuff, personally I think that's the nature of the internet, I wouldn't say "Wordpress has a Nazi issue".

       Mastodon is a tool that is built on the _old_ model of the internet: people and communities running their own little corner of the web.Just like Twitter/Tumblr, you can report bad things on your Mastodon instance you can tell the "weirdo upstairs" who runs it.

       mastodon.gamedev.place is run by @aras and he seems to be on-top of moderation, asking for more moderators as the community grows, blocking weird instances etc.But with anything run by the community, there is a risk of drama, mismanagement and fallout.

       Still, Mastodon is not for everyone. It takes a while to understand, finding an instance that fits you is a weird process, and re-adding all your friends kind of sucks. But I don't think it's a nazi wasteland.
