Well They are running two separate gamesThe tranny steam version and the classic version.Toady promised that there would be no interruption to the development of the classic version, but the last update was on January 28, 2021. Which isn't unusual for DF, it used to go many many months without an update, but had a consistent devlog between releases. Lately the devlogs have all been about the troon fortress version though.I am not losing hope and waiting for the long-ago promised update to the classic version, but things aren't looking too bright.

It's a money thing. I suppose his brother has a lot to do with it because Toady himself has always lived like an autistic monk. (He owns 1 cup to drink water from) his brother has always been the one pushing for monetization of the project. At least that is how I see it.I remember back in the day Toady was making 6k monthly on donations from his small community. I saw how more peoples started to appear on the forums and the playerbase started shifting towards being majority homogay faggots and trannies, and started causing waves and demanding their faggotry be represented. It was his beloved autism project from the start and he always wanted to keep it free with donations to help him buy enough ramen to survive until the next update. Then libshits and modern commercebrained faggots fucked it all up. Anyways we are never going to get a 1.0 release because Toady will obviously die long before we get there lmaoHis project is very ambitious and he one man devs it all.An example of the depth of his autism is he wanted to generate rivers and deserts properly, so he learned weather patterns to an autistic degree.The man is basically geologist at this point lmao.

Yeah the whole premise is really coolMore simulation than game.He is currently working on the myth update which should revamp the religious and mythological portions of the game as well as social interactions and structures. Which will open the way towards the long awaited magic update

When you do I recommend using the beginner guide on the wiki, or Kruggsmash's beginner guide on youtube.Mainly because it will teach you the basics of UI, which can be a bit confusing for new players. Especially those used to a modern UI

Always bugs me when people say the ui is “bad” its mostly logical after you get used to it. I appreciate “confusing”, instead.This meme is so prevalent i actually overheard two real life people in a bar discussing df and the only comment the one smug fellow had was that the ui was terrible. Years ago, too, pre steam and museum of modern art.
