I was sitting next to a lady in a mask on the plane, I think she was a psychologist according to her Chrome tabs. Anyways... she was checking Twitter constantly the whole flight but she had an article up about how to use Mastadon. I was a little laughing because she clearly was addicted to Twitter

@wbryant I do not think Mastodon is producing the response they want.On Twitter, they had a ready audience for their status signaling.Now that group has left for a place that rewards actual content.

@amerika @wbryant there is so much hand-holding and instant gratification on social sites today, hell when you make a Twitter account it requires you to pick 5 topics you like for the algorithm and follow at least 1 suggested celebrity

@wbryant I'm ripping off history here. On USENET, there was once a group that decided to avoid trolls and other unsavory people. They shared "killfiles" which are basically mute lists. Then they found out that they had created an entropy chamber of repetition and the project died.USENET then died because they identified the wrong threat. It was not trolls and spammers, but AOL users who brought normie drama on there and drove away the audience with repetition.

@wbryant you know how social workers always went into that profession because they grew up poor and wanted to help like their social worker did….yeah, it’s the same thing with psychologists. They’re all pretty mentally ill.
