I took an image of the moon and of the Andromeda galaxy with the same camera and the same lens (zoom). It's a reminder that a lot of objects in the night sky are really big (even as seen from earth) but our eyes don't collect enough light to see them.#Astronomy #Astrophotography #Science

@skepteis Cool beans! What's that smudge low center? (I know it's another galaxy/Messier object(?), but my internal skymap is shoddy)And I'm guessing the smudge over Andromeda's left shoulder is another Messier object?

@icmric It was a dedicated astronomy camera (https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/product/asi533mm-pro)

@skepteis thanks for that! I've always wondered how people get such amazing photos of space without them getting blured from earth's rotation, now I know!

@icmric Yeah, It's all about having a mount that compensates for it. And of course, image stacking (e.g. 30 x 1min exposures)

@skepteis Ich mag alle diese Bilder vom Universum😀. Irgendwie geben sie eine Ruhe, wie der Blick auf ruhige Seen oder Meere.

@skepteis Oh, cool! How did you compensate for the differences in exposures? There's quite a gap between magnitudes -12.74 and 3.1. I'm guessing this is a composite, but did you shoot at different times to avoid getting blur from the moon?

@jrconlin It's a composite from the same night. The moon was really low so I just waited a bit (felt like ages though as it was cold) and then shot the galaxy

@skepteis Heh, the moon moves fast in the scope, slow when you're trying to get the shot. Totally understand.Hope I can get a shot like this one day.
