People who don't bring their lunch to work are dumb. Do you have any idea how nice it is to know I don't have to make a fuss, just open a box and find quality food waiting for me? GF and I have been cooking lunches for each other. We're in a contest to make the most uplifting lunch. I've made a pinterest just to get ideas for it. There's so many good cow-themed ones, it's unreal.

@SpaceElf >He has a gf to make lunches forStopped reading at the GF part. Well duh, obviously it's great if you have the human element involved :awoo_pout2: I'd make lunch for me and a girl every day if I had one. Good for you guys, I'm sure it's cozy and tasty :gura_comfy: I remember being in highschool, excited to make lunch for the next day because this poor girl would bum a sandwich half off me. it's always fun when you got someone to share in the spoils.

@RehnSturm256 You can make your own lunches and randomize the order you get them in. It's what I did before. It's almost as nice. Food prep is only a benefit to you.

@SpaceElf yeah I'm just messing around. I already cook myself, tired of the bachelor way. but the randomness element sounds neat. Like little bento surprises. I do hope to have someone to cook for in the future. That'll be the real test of a cook :vajra_comfy:

@SpaceElf even if you just buy 5 small frozen meals for your lunch at the grocery store every week, you're still better off both health-wise and financially than going through the drive-thru or eating lunch at a restaurant. The other one that really bothers me is buying coffee out. Just buy a cheap pour-over coffee maker or a press, a good thermos, and some grounds and filtered water. The equipment is cheap and will pay for itself in a month of not going to the coffee shop and paying $4 or more a cup. All of the flavorings and recipes for the fancy coffee drinks are available online, and the ingredients are readily available in grocery stores. If you really care about your health, though, you'll stop pouring all that syrup and cream into your coffee anyway.

@Grandtheftautism the only thing a coffee ever needs is a finger's worth of milk and 2 shortbread biscuits.

@SpaceElf yeah, right? No need for flavored syrup and soy milk and whipped cream. Just coffee, maybe a little milk and sugar, that's it. Some people's "coffee" is more like a coffee-flavored soda than actual coffee. But hey, if that's what they like, they can make that at home for MUCH cheaper. Around the holidays I like to make some gingerbread spice simple syrup and make some gingerbread spice lattes as a treat. Not as daily thing, as a holiday treat, like a coffee-flavored dessert. Designer coffees are horribly full of empty calories.

@Grandtheftautism I don't add much, whole milk is all the sweetness I need. Maybe I'll add a teaspoon of honey if I'm feeling it. I do love gingerbread with my coffee though. I love gingerbread in general, though.

@SpaceElf I just drink my coffee black usually. I like to have a few gingerbread lattes, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, and wassail during the winter though, kind of cozy on a cold day and gives me something to look forward to about the cold season. I also love my winter soups, I eagerly watch the weather forecast in the fall for cold enough weather to start the soup season.

@Grandtheftautism I don't often drink coffee. I only really drink it on days my partner is has a late start for university. I'll make her breakfast and sit down for a coffee with her before she goes.

@SpaceElf nobody is sire if it's good for you or not. One day there's a study that says it kills you, the next day there's a study that touts its health benefits. I suppose it comes down to who paid for the study. In the meantime, it's probably better to carefully limit how much of it you drink. I used to drink tons of coffee and energy drinks, but now I only have one cup of coffee a day in the morning and strictly limit my caffeine in the afternoon. Every once in a while I'll have afternoon coffee to chase away a headache, but otherwise I just tough it out. I don't drink energy drinks at all any more. People get a huge tolerance to caffeine and it makes a lot of people irritable and grumpy without them noticing. Best to limit caffeine tbh.

@SpaceElf honestly thought it was an autocorrect error, my autocorrect is traitorous and "corrects" me into writing nonsense sentences all the time.

@Grandtheftautism I eat everything in moderation. For me it's more about intoxication, though. I take the Hávamál very seriously and it repeatedly warns about intoxication. I do also notice that I get extremely irritable after more than a cup.

@SpaceElf I'm a fatty and am terrible with limiting my food. I've been sneaking up on my wife and making smaller portions and including more healthy foods in our diet. I'm hoping she won't notice that I put us on a diet lol

@Grandtheftautism I grew up speaking almost exclusively Norwegian until I was about 7 or 8, and knowing English became a real concern. I've got a few ESL habits as a result, especially when I'm tired. Repeating a word in several sentences is one. Tacking on a redundant though, also, or to be honest within a sentence is another.

@Grandtheftautism I wish you luck. The easiest thing in the world is just cooking with whole ingredients and taking it easy on the sauce. You can fit like 4kg of baked potatoes into 3k calories.

@SpaceElf I didn't realize you were speaking English as a second language until you mentioned it, so you're doing great. I tend to put redundant words in too, and I'm lazy about proofreading posts as opposed to other types of writing, so there are a lot more errors there.

@SpaceElf she spent a lot of time on fad diets and cruel ones that made tasteless, bland food for no real reason. You don't have to subsist on boiled chicken breasts and steamed broccoli to lose weight! But as a result, if she hears the word "diet", she goes crazy. Just smaller portions and less empty calories goes a long way. Bigger breakfasts and smaller dinners helps a lot too.

@SpaceElf octopus wieners are super fun and easy, I totally understand why they became an iconic bento item.
