New to Mastodon? Here's another good #tip to follow. Use #hashtags as often as possible. This tells others what you like, what interests you have and so much more. Don't be scared to use them frequently.Others will likely engage with you and your posts more frequently if you use hashtags, as they see hashtags that are of interest to them.Users can search for and even follow a specific hashtag, allowing more eyes on your content in the long run.#MastodonTips #NewUsers #NewHere #FediTips

@cliffwade ok that's kind of interesting that that's the case here; I used to post like that on the birdsite but was eventually discouraged from it...

@egallager Hashtags is how you find posts here via search. They are very important and hugely relied on. Use them extensively here. You'll help yourself and others.

@cliffwade So there's none of that "we'll start downranking your post if you use more than two hashtags" nonsense that Twitter's algorithm used to pull here? Also is there a norm about #interspersing hashtags with your regular words vs. putting them at the end of the post?

@egallager None of that will happen here in any way. You can use them anywhere in your posts. Just use the heck out of them.
