Well, there it is. Pence-Pompeo - PeePee for short? Is this what Pompeo lost weight and robotically blanded and dulled himself down for? The VP mustn't outshine the Presidential hopeful. After failing as nominees will they channel another failed P and Perot themselves in an attempt to save their democracy from Trump? https://nypost.com/2022/11/17/pence-pompeo-reject-third-trump-white-house-run/

@StevenDouglas We didn’t win before Trump, except for the previous Bush. It was slim pickings after that. It will be a return to compromise in the name of “can’t we all get along”. The Democrats do not compromise, they covey and attack in unison. Neither of these two could win unless they have momentum of incumbency. 1/2

@Debradelai I don't see a question of character or bad faith on anyone's part - just strong disagreements in earnest.I think Pence, Pompeo, and MANY others see Trump as a loose cannon, and find him disturbing; someone who 'must be dealt with'.Understandable, and I don't care. War is hell. For me Trump's not for the faint of heart and just what the doctor ordered. To misquote Hannibal Lecter: Best thing for us all, really, the GOP's therapy was going nowhere.Looking forward to the brawl.

@umad80 @StevenDouglas We are past the point where personal loyalty and devotion to Trump is the deciding factor in who will be the nominee. It is not 2015 or 2020. The power dynamics have changed.1/2

@umad80 @StevenDouglas The power dynamic has been changing and the midterms were a decisive event. It is much too early to know how all of this will play out. Trump's announcement was much earlier than any candidate that I am aware of. The speech was tepid, mild and melancholy and it is already fading as a news event. There are many politicians and leaders who are speaking out now because the balance of power has shifted and Trump's power peaked and is in decline. 2/3.

@umad80 @StevenDouglas There is nothing unusual about that. These are politicians and politics is about power, and Trump's control of the GOP lasted 7 1/2 years - a long time. Now that is changing. They no longer fear him. He certainly still has power and is popular with many of his followers, but his hold on the GOP is broken. Politicians know it and they have just started to say what they think.3/4

@umad80 @StevenDouglas I know what I am saying will not be popular for some; I have read several of the posts about the personal commitment to Trump. It is an issue of emotional investment for them. But the evidence from the midterms and the poor showing of the Trumper MAGA populists who were endorsed by Trump in important races is clear. I don't share that personal commitment to politicians. They work for us. This is the United States. But I know that many disagree with me4/5

@umad80 @StevenDouglas There is plenty of time. Trump can change his message. He can work hard to appeal to the swing and independent voters and moderates who have turned away from his brand. He has to, or there is no chance of reaching 270.So this will be a period of constantly changing power dynamics. We have many outstanding new leaders who are running on a strong platform that is very different than the bland neocon failures of the pre-Trump era. He changed the GOP permanently5/5

@StevenDouglas You know, I'd be worried about the Republican 'bench' if NO one wanted to challenge Trump. But on a basis of other than Not Trump.Unless Republican 'operatives' use mail-in ballots like the Democrats do, I think Trump will be the nominee. But if he is not, I know I will vote the for the Republican nominee. That's essential.Their characterization of Trump as a whiner is going to fail, because every American, pro or con, knows 2020 was stolen. Election fraud needs to be fixed.

@timr @StevenDouglas What I saw when he announced his candidacy was exactly the person he needs to be and *can* be and still get the response from his supporters. I think Trump knows this. The problem is, he lets his ego get in the way too often. If he can avoid that, I think he will definitely court the voters who are wary of him at this point.

As I have said before he must stop being wishy washy and stand up to some of his supporters and stop getting lead around like a donkey.

@Donjanusgjrdrm @timr @StevenDouglas Who the hell knows why Trump does anything?I do know one thing… you can’t predict how anything will turn out when it comes to Trump. And I’m not saying he’s playing some sort of 12-D chess. I’m just saying that when it comes to him, it’s just unpredictable… For instance, I thought when he came out swinging against McCain and made that comment about shoulders who get captured, I thought he’s done for. It rolled off of him like no big deal.

@umad80 @timr @StevenDouglas True that but as Kyle said the other evening, sometime the new gamers have some unique moves that none have seen before. Then after a few times the guys catch on and it stops working. In order to stay in the game a long time you have to keep readjusting your skills, will Trump be able to keep his game on? I truly hope so. I want to support him and will if he gets the nomination. He once said he wanted to do what was right for the country. He is true to h word.

@Lisa22 @timr @umad80 The greatest thing for me isn't Trump winning (more). It's that he has seeded, and continues to seed, the garden. Without Trump there would be no DeSantis or Lake (in their current forms). He paved the way for them, they followed his blueprint, and they are just the first among many seedlings yet to emerge. Trump might end up defeated (again), but not Trumpism. Too late for that. The army he's raising is his real legacy, not the examples he set while creating it.

@timr @umad80 @StevenDouglas Trump has to run on his accomplishments. He needs to eliminate the distractions with stupid "cat fights" when someone criticizes him. Swing States also need to stop mail in voting or there will never be a R president again. If he campaigns like his Tues speech and they stop the fraud, he'll win

@JoycevorTrump needs the Independent and swing voters who chose Democrats in the midterms and rejected his endorsed candidates in several swing states. That is the reality. They are 40% of the voting population and growing.Trump was a disrupter in 2016 when that was needed. The dynamic has changed, and there will likely be a long list of potential candidates in 2024. This has to do with political reality, not the outdated niceties of etiquette. @RonOgletree @umad80 @StevenDouglas
