@shadowfacts I always assumed that Quicksilver (and other application launchers from the early aughts) paved the way for command palettes.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quicksilver_(software)

@boogah yeah, I think that's true. I remember using Quicksilver and Alfred way back when. but I'm curious what started the trend of having them within individual applications, not just system-wide

@shadowfacts M-x is the way you run pretty much any lisp function that's marked itself as available for interactive execution (which is a lot of them)Searching/filtering the functions available is a bit barebones in the default emacs but you can configure it to give you fuzzy name matching
