i'm not trans, but i follow many fun and interesting trans people. and although the rules of my instance don't explicitly mention it, it's *very* likely that i'll strike down upon people who give trans people any trouble.why don't my rules mention the harassment of trans people specifically?simple. because i will not tolerant harassment in general.if you can't be a decent person, you're not welcome here.the same goes for nasty comments toward women, gays, blacks, and all those groups.but i feel if i actually have to EXPLAIN this, you're probably too stupid to listen anyway. any reasonable person should understand basic human decency.

because i FULLY expect any reasonable person to show some basic consideration and human decency, i sometimes feel like my intelligence has been insulted when the rules of an instance say something like "no transphobia".we shouldn't need to even state that explicitly.humans vary a LOT in how they choose to live their lives. anyone who has a bit of history and science knowledge should know this already.

also, if your instance is trying to be a safe space, and it has berserker.town on the block list, maybe reconsider.i generally find that berserker.town is *very* peaceful. it's *rare* that my users get reported. we're talking "a handful of times a year" here, and usually, when i examine the posts that got reported, the basis for that report was quite thin...

@thor I tend to lash out at people (including trans people) when they act in a way that is anti-social.For example, you have probably seen the instances of me saying "kys" to trans people who promote violence towards cis people and those who do not follow their ideology.I won't do that here though, since you clearly don't want that kind of thing on your property.

@thor so tired. In Hawaii, we have a "mahu" culture which is really the third gender, so to speak. But, in Hawaii, there's nothing special about it, either. The normalization of something, is that what people want? Or do they want the exultation of it? Equity as a path to exultation? Getting a minority group too much attention almost always backfires as well. As you learn in bootcamp: never attract too much attention. Being a target is never the best thing to be in a dangerous world. You be you.

@thor How do you feel about the statement: "All lives matter"? Everything you said is perfectly normal and decent. But the people who are gonna have an issue with you are gonna interpret what you just said as the equivalent of "all lives matter", and I'm sure you're aware of the debate around that phrase. I'm not saying you should change anything, just making sure you are prepared for the potential attacks.

@grantonthenet oh boy, this kind of thing, plus "they lacked the sentence X in their rules" happens a lot.there is such a thing as an unreasonable admin.now, here's an argument that HAS had me thinking a lot recently.a story of a bar owner.a guy turned up and ordered a drink. the bar owner told him to gtfo.next to him sat the person who was telling this story, and he asked "what was that about?"the bar owner explained it like this:"you didn't see it, but he had nazi symbols all over his outfit. if i let one nazi stay here, soon enough, he'll bring his nazi friends, and before you know it, i'm running a nazi bar."this made me think HARD. i'm still concerned that the liberties i offer here on berserker.town might result in that.

@grantonthenet if one or two users on here express nazi-like views in a civil and coherent fashion, and they don't bother anyone, i would let it pass. not because approve of it, but because maybe if the nazi can say it in public, he can also be humiliated for his ridiculous statements. if you look at Norwegian government policies, they essentially permit any crazy group to demonstrate and make statements... BUT, they also permit this to be criticised and ridiculed. forcing it underground won't get rid of it. it might even make it worse. something about allowing it to be stated AND criticised out in the open...

@alyx it has to be viewed in contextthe whites in the US feel under attackand many of them feel they never discriminated or committed atrocities against blacks, and they never had bad experienced with police, so they perceive a hysteriai don't like "all lives matter"the whole idea of "black lives matter" is not trying to say white lives don't matter.but everyone can see that cops in America kill more black people than white people. often for pretty bad reasons.i sorta just... the info stream that is coming across the Atlantic suggests there are these attitudes... but also, a trench war between the blacks and the whites. bad blood.it's a giant mess.we have black and white people in Europe due to immigration, but boy am i glad we don't have all this resentment on both sides.

In practice, instances which don't have some level of moderation to weed out extreme hate end up being shitholes filled to the brim with vile content that 99% of decent humans just don't want to read.I don't think we need to silence a person who wants to have a polite discussion about transgender athletes, but there is no place for a person who thinks it's okay to use a slur about a transperson.
