déjeune - Terminal e is silentdéjeuné - Terminal e is not silentdéjeuner - Terminal r is silent, and in the specific case of THIS ONE WORD, the pronunciation is identical to déjeuné, but for other verbs the -é conjugation will not typically be pronounced the same as the -er conjugation...is that right? Do I have that right? D:

More questions--1. The video I'm watching says that "o" can be either an "ohh" sound, like in "moto", or an "uhh" sound, like in "pomme". She says the distinction is whether the terminal letter is a vowel sound (and of course the o in moto is a vowel but the e in pomme is not because it is silent). Is that... is that right? Really? She also says that open/closed rule applies to ê (rêve = "revv" / rêvé = "rai vai"). Are there other "dual mode" vowels like this I should know about?

2. In the video, she claims that "y" and "i" are pronounced the same way, "ee" (ie "physique" the y and i sound the same). Is there a way to know which of the two to use when trying to spell a French word I have heard, or is this just a thing to memorize?

This is the video I was watching, by the way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V0cVTnS2KkIt is pretty good, but unfortunately all she seems to do is go through the way different letters are pronounced, whereas honestly the thing I was struggling with is which letters *aren't* pronounced

@mcc VINGT. I mean holy crap why are those last three even there? It's not like the "I" is exactly prominent, but after that you just don't even bother. Crazy Gauls.

@TomF @mcc Oh boy if you start to include the numbers... It especially goes crazy when you reach over 60 (soixante) then 70 (soixante dix) 80 (quatre vingt , 4 times 20) and 90 (quatre vingt dix 4 times 20... 10)

@TomF @mcc All these exceptions to the rules have one sole goal: to sound "right". I think this is the hardest part for someone to master french. You have to understand what sounds "right" and what doesn't.

@primalmotion @TomF to make this about 2x harder I'm going to be subjecting myself about 50/50 metropolitan and Quebecois French so the chances of me accurately picking up just one of the two dialect patterns is near zero
