@anthracite @phoe Use Pleroma instances then. In Stereophonic we have a 30k character limit, so we don't have to do stupit Twitter-shit-like like a bot to unroll threads.

@captainepoch @anthracite Or use a differently configured instance; no need to switch away from Mastodon if you like it. Functional Café (which admittedly uses the glitchsoc fork) has a 2500 character limit for toots.

@phoe that’s all cool and all, but instance block prevents you from seeing that bot. It doesn’t prevent the bot from scraping your posts.There is literally no way in hell to protect public posts from being scraped around here. You just have to accept and live with this.

@phoe @captainepoch I have a 7k limit on the instance I run but it is super annoying that this must be done by either hacking the source or tweaking something in the env variables, both are impossible for people using managed hosting. Masto's Benevolent Dictator For Life refuses to entertain making it easier to increase this and this may indeed be a thing that makes people decide to leave Masto for other fediverse servers.Pleroma has the big problem of it only showing up on fediblock as "three anime girl icons constantly naziposting" so a lot of Masto admins are just gonna defed your ass at the slightest provocation. I seriously saw someone broadcasting a little hack to auto-defed every single Pleroma their Masto encounters because of this reputation a few days ago. If there's an easy masto>pleroma migration path then maybe this will change but I sure don't feel like being one of the first movers on this...

@anthracite @phoe Yeah, well, Mastodon is used by Truth Social and Gab, and yet people seem to not care about that. You should really stop listening to the "Pleroma is a Nazi Mastodon" meme because Pleroma is used by all kind of persons out there.Also, stop looking at the Fediblock list, because you will find the stupidest reasons to block whole instances because just one person...To end, I don't care if Mastodon instances defederate with Pleroma instances. The purpose of the fediverse is not to defederate at the slightest oportunity, but because a reason big enough that could affect your instance. If someone offends you, mute them and that's all you need to do.

@phoe what do you mean you aren’t going to allow? My point is, it’s not in your power to block this. You can probably block that instance in your firewall or nginx to prevent them from seeing your posts, but this won’t even hold due to federation. Your block is an equivalent for shutting your eyes really tight and saying that the problem doesn’t exist because you don’t see it.

@newt my block is equivalent to making a tiny choice in a broader society and announcing that this sort of behavior is not OK. It's already going to go personal and philosophical, but life is a collection of choices rather that control. I don't get to control things that are outside my domain, such as the rest of the Fediverse, but I get to choose if I'm going to do stay silent about threadunroller or if I'm going to denounce it and suspend it for all users of my instance.
