@newt@stereophonic.space never said that social media is a good news source. i'm just saying that for some, its the only thing they have. and as for verification, since it got so easy to get verified with the musky implemention, its easier than ever to pose as a "legitimate" source while posting propaganda. as it was before, the verification tick gave the account at least some form of legitimacy and since it was a thing on birbsite for so long, peoples trust in the tickmark increased. now that basically everyone can have a tickmark who pay their 8$ can abuse this trust very easily to spread false information. (fyi, not saying that stuff like that didnt happen before, it certainly did, just not to this extend)dont get me wrong, using social media as a news source sucks. i agree with you on that. some people arent that lucky to have a choice tho. think of people living in a dictatorship, where every news outlet is controlled by the reigning forces.

I never used twitter as a source of news, but a lot of people do, and with the recent political issues we have it could send people in a panic if shitposts are done just right. Because the news has been more of a detriment than a net-positive. It's important that we're not left completely ignorant... but the news that spreads tends to be fear-mongering and divisive.
