@Rasp I feel there's a joke that could be made here, but I had a fair deal of success with Adobe CS3 (or was it CS4) era OCR. Not good enough that I would say it was good enough to convert to a working text document, but good enough to say that it could be a decent "first draft" of the text document. I think things should have improved since then.

@Rasp I have no idea, but I'd guess it's some kind of puzzle solving algorithm that tries to fit letter shaped pieces into letter shaped holes.
