@ink8 @sarvo @opal I just find myself unreceptive to the idea that unfiltered internet access harms teenagers. The basic lessons I learned about trusting vs not trusting strangers and recognising predatory behaviour served me just as well on the internet as IRL, and on the internet I could always just block people. I didn't need a safely curated environment, and whenever anyone tried to put me in a walled garden because I was a teenager (or even just shut me out of adult spaces) I lied about my age and found ways of circumventing it.

@ink8 @sarvo @opal A stint as a teacher made me 100% blackpilled on both parenting and teaching tbh, most kids get the bare minimum of either and it is almost never individually tailored to the child's needsThat said there is something to be said for letting children explore and make their own mistakes, the balance is almost impossible to strike really. You need receptive and attentive parents who truly care about understanding their child as an individual, presenting them with a range of stimuli and opportunities and letting the personality emerge naturally rather than shaping it. You need education that strikes a perfect balance between encouraging all-round skills and scaffolding essential knowledge vs allowing self-direction in learning and encouraging the child to push their own frontiers. And you need an environment that you can loose the child into like an outdoors cat, one that provides the perfect balance of safety vs danger (children being raised in horrible crime-ridden ghettos is obviously not a great thing, but by contrast if there is never any danger at all to encounter then important lessons go unlearned.)It's impossible to get it perfect and very hard to get it right *at all* and any fuckups mess up the cognitive, emotional and skill development of a human being. It's too much to handle at the best of times and as I said before, most parents don't even fucking try and the education system is trash. So I bowed out. See you later normies.
