Being friends with me is asking a simple question like "do mermaids have minges" and receiving a short lecture on vulva symbolism in medieval religious art in answer.

A brief precis since I consider you my pals. In the middle ages, churches were big into overt vulva symbolism. In Britain, Ireland and France, the sheela na gig squatted proudly pussy out in churches. Meanwhile, in Italy, they used a different, but similar, symbol: the two-tailed mermaid, also known as the melusine or siren.

The overt spread-legged, pussy-out symbols were a religious thing. They were in churches, and they were in churches everywhere which suggests it wasn't just some horny master builder being horny. So the interpretation of these is that it's symbolism for birth and resurrection, and therefore very Christian indeed.

Evidence for this comes from another religious art trend, the mandorla. This is pretty much a vulva-shaped frame. It's used around Jesus in art specifically surrounding the resurrection, and also frequently surrounding Mary. Their heads and haloes are usually positioned where the clit goes.

Anyway, the mandorla shape is explicitly related to the pagan fertility symbol, the vesica piscis and probably started turning up very early in Christianity to make churches more familiar and appealing to pagans, and/or because the builders were themselves pagans. You can even see the mandorla in the shape of church doors, you have to step through a pussy to get in.

So, to answer the question "do mermaids have minges"? YES!!!! And they're very sacred. Also, starbucks used to have a proper minge-out mermaid as their logo before chickening out.
